 2020 Spring Offerings

Getting Major Gifts: Planned & Noncash Giving

This module is designed to provide participants with an overview of getting major gifts through planned and noncash giving. Doing so requires unique skills and understanding of the major donor mindset, including what triggers major gifts and how to open the conversation. This module will examine how to best serve donors in maximizing their giving, while also reducing their taxes. Participants will learn about different planned giving instruments, such as wills, trusts and annuities. They will also learn best practices associated with a variety of topics: the triggers to major planned gifts, good advice to give business owners about the sale of their business and suggestions linked to the wealth transfer….
Faculty: Michael J. Brown – Associate Director, Philanthropic Service for Institutions (PSI)
Category: Resource Development

The Heart of a Leader

Because we believe that successful leadership begins on the inside, this course is designed to intentionally focus on a leader’s heart motivation, our “why” first. Defining our “why” is not an easy task. It requires soul-searching, an understanding of one’s core life values and a desire for a destination that’s much more than pure profit or personal success. This course will explore critical questions every leader must answer, differences between a spiritually healthy and an unhealthy heart and how understanding and embracing our identity and an accurate self-awareness will make us much more effective influencers. *This is a required course for an Outcomes Leadership CORE Certificate.
Faculty: Phyllis Hendry Halverson – President and CEO, Lead Like Jesus
Category: Executive Leadership.

Strategies for Acquiring and Retaining Talent

This module will equip you to strategically acquire and retain the talented people your nonprofit organization needs. It will help you to develop and maintain a defined talent acquisition lifecycle process. It will explore talent sourcing in today’s dramatically changing labor market, and how to recruit across generations and disciplinary backgrounds. Planning well is critical, and this module explores target planning that employs an aligned biblical framework for talent acquisition and targeting. It also examines critical HR issues like rewards, incentives and the importance of shared cultural values, as they are vital supports to employee performance and retention. Ultimately, a strong talent acquisition and retention program should result in high performance and continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Faculty: Joelle Peelgren – Founder/Principal, DeGenaro Peelgren Associates
Category: People Management & Care.

CCNL Leadership

The module is designed to provide the leader of a nonprofit organization an executive-level view of what is required for God-honoring personal, organizational and board leadership. Creating a roadmap, this module lifts a leader to higher thinking about the role of executive leadership and how senior leaders influence others, the organization, the board and those the organization exists to serve. This module is required for all those participating in the CCNL program. (Three sessions in Leadership; two sessions in Board Governance)
Faculty: Tami Heim – CCNL, President/CEO, Christian Leadership Alliance
Category: CCNL.
