Remember the Significance of Consecration
Today, I reflect on the significance of a Biblical model that places consecration before conquest. I recently emerged from our annual five-day leaders’ meeting, which focused on personal spirituality and community transformation. Unlike our previous gatherings, this one felt more like a spiritual retreat than a strategy or business meeting.
This shift may have been intentional as the organization transitions to new leadership and undergoes structural changes. It signals the beginning of a new era—one that consolidates past successes while creating a pathway for greater Kingdom impact.
A Biblical Model: Consecration before Conquest
When the Israelites entered the Promised Land, consecration came first. In Joshua 3 and 5, Joshua commanded the people to purify themselves and renew their covenant commitment to God. This act of spiritual preparation was essential before crossing the Jordan River and conquering Jericho.
Consecration preceded conquest. The Israelites needed to cleanse themselves, set themselves apart from other nations, and acknowledge God as their true commander. As Scripture declares:
“Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you”
Joshua 3:5
Jesus Fasted Before His Ministry
Jesus likewise fasted for forty days and forty nights before beginning His earthly ministry. Through this season of consecration—marked by communion with the Father and victory over temptation—He was prepared to fulfill His divine mission.
Jesus modeled the principle clearly: consecration comes before conquest.
He withdrew to commune with His Father, gaining strength and clarity for His redemptive work. With unwavering focus, He accomplished the mission of salvation in just three years.
That is Jesus Christ. What about you and me?
Surrender and Submission to God
Steward leaders understand who they are and willingly submit themselves to God. They recognize that victory begins with surrender. Everything belongs to God—including ownership and control of all things.
This truth brings freedom. When we release the illusion of control, we are liberated to lead with joy, peace, and confidence. Stewards lead not out of insecurity but out of trust in God. Their ultimate calling is intimacy with Him. Their identity is anchored in Jesus Christ—not in the fleeting measures of wealth, power, or worldly ambition. The only applause they seek is from the one with nail-scarred hands.
A Call to Consecration
Let us, therefore, consecrate ourselves as children and stewards of God. And from that place of surrender, let us move forward—toward conquest and victory in the Lord.
