Good Works and the Faithful Steward By Dr. Brian S. Simmons

The Connection Between Faith and Being Faithful

True faith always inspires being faithful. It has been said that faith alone saves, but the faith that saves is never alone! What brings meaning and purpose to life?

Becoming Like Christ

As followers of Christ, we are to make progress throughout our lives, becoming increasingly like Him. And what did Jesus say at the end of His life on earth? He said, speaking of His Heavenly Father,

“I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.”

 John 17:4

How do we bring glory to God? What does it look like while living out our lives here on earth? What are the good works God has given us to do?

Obeying the Master

As faithful stewards, we are to fulfill the purposes of our Master. Consider all God has SO graciously entrusted to our care! His good gifts include time, treasure, talents, and relationships. Our relationships exist on four levels: with God, self, others, and creation. And, as faithful stewards, we love and serve God by loving and serving others. Like Jesus, we put service over self-interest.

Faithful Alignment

Our good works align with how well we use the good gifts God has entrusted to us! This alignment is what makes our work good! How does He want me to use my time today? Invest my treasure? Use my talent and grow my relationships as I point people toward Christ?

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Joshua 1:8

This Book (the Bible) will keep you from sin, and sin will keep you from this Book!

Our Choice

There are only two ways to live. Either we will be on the throne of our lives or God will. We will either seek our own will or His will… our rule or His rule!

“Life is a stewardship. It is temporary. We are accountable.”

Andy Stanley

At the end of the day, the faithful steward lives to hear from his Master, “Well done, good and faithful steward. Come. Let’s celebrate!”  As God’s faithful steward leaders, let’s bring glory to God by completing the good works He has planned for us to do!
