Prince of Peace By W. Scott Brown

Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace

By W. Scott Brown

Today’s world is rife with turmoil. From war, conflict and refugee crises abroad, to contentious election campaigns and policy battles here at home, we feel this tension. But Jesus offers us a peace that transcends this moment.

As we approach the glorious resurrection day of Easter, let us reflect on the peace and reconciliation Jesus provides to us through his death, burial and resurrection.

Jesus is the “Prince of Peace” whom Isaiah foretold:

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah 9:6

Angels celebrated the advent of that peace in the birth of Jesus Christ:

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”~ Luke 2:13-14, KJV

Jesus offered forgiveness and peace during his earthly ministry:

Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you, go in peace.” ~ Luke 7:50

Today, the resurrected and ascended Jesus offers that same peace and reconciliation to all of us:

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. ~ Colossians 1:19-20

So as we celebrate this Easter, our prayer for you is that you will experience the fullness of the peace Jesus promised to his disciples:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. ~ John 14:27

Together, we proclaim a glorious gospel. This Easter, let us join with the angels who worshiped near Bethlehem saying “Glory to God in the highest.” The redemption that Jesus, our “Prince of Peace,” provides to us merits our celebration!
