Champions Seek Transformation

It’s a gift to have trusted champions who advocate for transformation in your life. Ones that spur you on to do good works and to be doers of what is good, kind, and faithful. We find passages in scripture that highlight how God is our ultimate Champion!  

• Psalm 89:19-21 explicitly speaks of God endowing a hero, a champion, with the power to help Israel. 
• Psalm 118:14-29 also refers to God as “my champion”. 
• Isaiah 42:13 portrays God marching out like a champion, a warrior, stirring up His zeal and triumphing over His enemies. 

 In the New Testament, Jesus is presented as the ultimate Champion, having conquered sin and the power of death. In Hebrews, we have the picture of past champions cheering us on, and as we look to Jesus, our ultimate Champion!

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. “

Hebrews 12:1-2

Characteristics of Champions of Faith

• Faith and Trust in God: Unwavering faith in God’s power and promises, even when facing challenging or seemingly impossible circumstances. 
• Boldness and Courage: Willingness to stand up for God’s righteousness and truth, confronting injustice and opposition without fear. 
• Intimacy with God: A deep and personal relationship with God, cultivated through prayer, spending time in His presence, and prompt obedience to His will.  
• Obedience and Servanthood: Demonstrating a willingness to obey God’s commands and serve His purposes, often putting the needs of others before their own. 
• Humility and Self-Control: Recognizing their dependence on God and submitting their own will to His. They are teachable and willing to adjust their behavior by God’s Word. 

Christ-centered Organizations as Champions

Christ-centered nonprofit organizations exhibit these same characteristics. You can recognize them because they are upholders of truth, advocates for justice, and supporters of the vulnerable. They wrestle with a holy discontent over what they witness, knowing it breaks the heart of God. 

Today, I am sharing about Alliance organizations that are Champions in our world today! While passionate about a specific call, they demonstrate generosity and advocate for radical transformation.

We celebrate the assignment God has given each of them to pursue and give thanks for their willingness to be champions of the Alliance’s call to equip and unite all leaders called to transform the world for Christ. 

Campus Crusade for Christ International | Cru

Cru is a caring community passionate about connecting people to Jesus Christ. Their purpose is to help fulfill the Great Commission in the power of the Holy Spirit by winning people to faith in Jesus Christ, building them in their faith, and sending them to win and build others. Cru helps the body of Christ engage in evangelism and discipleship in various creative ways.

Their mission is to win, build, and send Christ-centered multiplying disciples who launch spiritual movements. The vision that propels them is to see movements everywhere so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus.

Compassion International

Compassion International employs a three-pronged approach to ministry. Taken individually, each cord is not unique. However, when taken together with their Statement of Faith, the reasons they serve, the way they serve, and the people they serve create a distinct approach to ministry. The three cords include 1) Christ-centered, 2) Church-driven, and 3) Child-focused.

For more than 70 years, Compassion International has worked to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name, trusting the ability of their church partners to create environments of unparalleled stability where children can experience God’s love and acceptance in tangible ways.

Compassion International is a global champion of transformation.

Joni and Friends

Joni and Friends envisions a world where every person with a disability finds hope, dignity, and their place in the body of Christ. They share hope through hardship and bring practical help and Gospel hope to people with disabilities worldwide. The mission of Joni and Friends is to glorify God as they communicate the Gospel and mobilize the global Church to evangelize, disciple, and serve people living with disability. The vision that compels them is a world where every person with a disability finds hope, dignity, and their place in the body of Christ.

Due to their dedication to the cause, they have distributed 227,000 wheelchairs worldwide, and 80,000 families have found respite care. With every wheelchair, 227,000 Bibles were also distributed. 

Jon and Friends is a global champion of transformation.

World Vision 

This year, World Vision celebrates 75 years of making a lifesaving impact where it’s hardest to be a child. Their mission has been since 1950, a world free from poverty.

As a beacon of Jesus’ love, World Vision serves wherever their neighbors are in need — believing in their potential, and in the God who loves us all. Together with our donors and partners, they are equipping communities to lift themselves out of poverty, so every child can become who God meant them to be. Their impact spans Child sponsorship, disaster relief, clean water, food, and health. They continue to pull up the roots of poverty and plant the seeds of change—building relationships. Listening, planning, and working alongside local church and community leaders, they find solutions together that will change the future for children.
