What’s your 2026 WIG?  By Dr. Brian S. Simmons

Wise Leaders Have an Annual WIG

The book The Four Disciplines of Execution (4DX) begins by emphasizing the importance of establishing a Wildly Important Goal. A WIG!!

A Biblical Perspective

The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, explains God’s plan and purpose. God’s plan is at the right time to bring everything together under the authority of Christ- everything in heaven and on earth (1:9-10). And His purpose is to bring praise and glory to Himself (1:12). Faithful steward leaders seek to align their wills, plans, and purposes with His!

When God created the world and all its people, He said it was very good! Then Adam sinned and plunged the entire human race into sin. But God had a plan for the redemption of mankind! He sent His Son Jesus into the world to become a man, live a perfect life, then die on the cross for our sins! When He rose from the dead after three days in the tomb, He conquered death for all who put their faith and trust in Him. And one day He will return and restore all things to the way they should be!

The Steward Leader Call

As a steward leader and follower of Christ, I find great joy in aligning my purposes with His! And, as a follower of Christ, I am to do the good things God planned for me to do (2:10)! Only then can I align others with His purposes for the organizations I help to lead.

So, I’ve been thinking about my WIG for 2026.

Years ago, I was visiting David Tilley, who faithfully led Mount Paran Christian School in Marietta, Georgia, for many years. As we were peeking through a glass wall into a beautiful dance studio, one of David’s grandchildren, a student at the school he led, came up and gave him a big hug. I thought about how much I would love to have that same experience someday!

August 2026, my oldest son, Jared (founder), and I (founding head of school) will open Lakeside Christian Academy (LCA). And his four children will all be students at LCA.

So, my WIG for 2026 is to launch LCA successfully!

A Sense of Purpose

I am in my fourth quarter of life. Looking back, my life to this point has been defined by the good things God has put on my heart and enabled me to do! This is my calling… my life purpose.

God has entrusted to my care time, treasure, talent, and relationships! Of these good gifts, relationships are the most precious. And the best of all are lifetime friendships with my wife of 45 years, children and their spouses, 15 grandchildren, and friends. Stewardship realms align with relational roles.

“So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of His call. May He give you the power to accomplish all of the good things your faith prompts you to do,” I Thessalonians 1:11

“After all, what gives us hope and joy and will be our reward and crown as we stand before our Lord Jesus Christ when He returns?  It is you!  Yes, you are our pride and joy”

I Thessalonians 2:19-20
