Lessons for Leaders: Generosity

I’m trying to be a more generous person.  It’s a challenge for me because we grew up dirt poor.  We had to be extremely careful with how we spent our money. That mindset has carried over into adulthood and management.  But generosity is one of our organization’s core values.

We give things away to our partners around the world.  We share the resources God has given us to facilitate the ministry of our partners. I’m trying to be more generous in my personal life as well, not just with money, but time, attention, love and compassion.

Then just this morning, I was reading in Luke 6, Jesus speaking:

“Give and you will receive.  Your gift will return to you in full measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over.  Whatever measure you use in giving, large or small, it will be sued to measure what is given make to you.”

That applies to resources, money, time, attention, compassion, love, and mercy.  Good thing for leaders to understand and practice.
