Do You Have a Clear Perspective? By Tami Heim
As a leader, do you have a clear perspective?
What weight do you put on the past, the present, and the future? How does your assignment of importance shape the way you see things and the actions that follow? Do you even know?
For many…
The past provides a foundation for context, insight, and wisdom.
The present offers opportunity and urgency.
The future promises the advancement of God-ordained plans and new possibilities.
All three, when surrendered to God, create a leadership perspective that is marked by both confidence and humility.
For Christian leaders confidence comes from knowing the God who is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. The trials of life affirm his promises are true and his track record documents how mighty he is when a leader stands on the edge of impossible situations. Those who seek hard after God’s purpose collect the stories that point to the provision of God. When those stories are shared, each one unleashes refreshment through the power of God’s faithfulness, grace, and enduring love.
Humility weaves throughout the lessons a leader learns through time, the neediness felt in the life-changing moment he or she is in, and emerges with desperate dependence on God’s direction for what comes next.
David worked diligently to gain a clear perspective in his role as a leader. Human and weak, God gave him great authority and privilege. And in all situations David was desperate and urgent about giving glory to God. He was aware and reminded of his past, eager to embrace the call of the moment, and relentlessly confidant that God held his future. He lived in the ever-present tension that comes when a leader’s life is etched with great humility and great confidence.
Psalm 8:3-9, ESV
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings [a]
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
9 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
As a leader, do you have a clear perspective?
