Your Favorite Bible Verse By Dr. Gary G. Hoag

What’s your favorite Bible verse on stewardship?

By Dr. Gary G. Hoag

Recently I was asked to write a reflection of about 150 words about a favorite Bible verse that has been formative in my personal Christian stewardship and generosity journey.

Here was my reply.

“As a biblical scholar who helped review the content of the NIV Stewardship Study Bible, when you ask me my favorite verse on the topic, some 2,000 verses come to mind. Seriously! I guess if I had to narrow it to one today, it would be 1 Peter 4:10. It’s the Apostle Peter’s words to dispersed Christ-followers in a pagan world (so it fits well for our global community today):

“As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.”

To live Christianly is to deploy ourselves (our gifts) and to dispense resources (our goods) so that people may grasp the gospel (God’s grace). I am learning that as a Christ-follower, my role is to model the lifestyle of a content conduit of God’s material and spiritual blessings whose living, giving, serving, and loving imitates Christ.”

What would you say in 150 words?

What would your favorite verse be?

Take time to write your answer today!

This was a good exercise for me as it strengthened my focus. I would liken the process to mapping a personal mission statement. I resolve to deploy my gifts and goods to make known the gospel.

May God help us together serve as content conduits whose generosity with all we are and all we have imitates Christ and points people to Him.
