An Acts 10 Moment: Peter’s Born Again, Again Experience

In this episode from The Outcomes Conference 2018, Danielle Strickland gives fresh focus to the tenth chapter of Acts. She takes us back to the time when Peter is on the rooftop and receives a vision from God that comes with peculiar directions. What Peter receives is entirely confusing and disrupts what he has believed to be true all his life.  In fact, the directions are so perplexing to him, he has to seek additional clarification in his conversation with God.

In the end, Peter has a decision to make. He can hold on to his past belief or surrender it and faithfully follow God’s guidance. Danielle explains that this is Peter’s born again, again experience. In his response to God, Peter chooses to go for it before he fully gets it.

Danielle underscores the common misconception that invitations from God come in a way that offer a sense of peace and comfort. Through the text found in Acts chapter 10 and her personal experiences, she makes the case that peace and comfort are not God’s pattern for moving us from where we are to where he wants us to be.

In her winsome way, Danielle reminds us that the greatest invitations from God will always make us uncomfortable, confused, and test the depths of our faith. If we say we have peace, it may be a signal to double check if we are actually listening to God. She encourages us to make space for God and then lean into the disruption. Our willingness to go for it before we get it allows each of us the opportunity to witness the extraordinary and unimaginable power of the Kingdom of God coming to earth.

• Are you ready to accept Jesus is who he says he is and believe that his perfect love that will cast out all fear?
