VOMO: Free for COVID-19 Response

VOMO Makes its National Volunteering Platform Free for COVID-19 Response

Any organization, in any community, worldwide can use it to mobilize volunteers!

As of last week, VOMO (Volunteer Mobilization) made its volunteer management platform free and accessible to any organization mobilizing volunteers and any person who wants to serve during the COVID-19 crisis.

In 2019, VOMO partnered with Sony Pictures and the film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood starring Tom Hanks to execute the “Be a Neighbor” campaign to encourage Americans to live out the legacy of Mister Rogers by being a neighbor through volunteerism. Now the second installment of “Be a Neighbor” is how individuals, organizations and entire communities can access VOMO’s platform for free.

Volunteers are critical to the COVID-19 response. Frontline community organizations are starting to see the beginnings of a coming tsunami of need. Food banks running low on canned and boxed food. Animal shelters looking for homes to foster pets temporarily. Even hospitals who need donated USB plug in webcams so they can do virtual triaging. We don’t know how this crisis will play out. But we do know volunteers are desperately needed.

“This crisis is inspiring people to take care of one another, and there is an explosion of grassroots efforts to organize willing helpers on email, listservs and social media. We’ve spent the last three years building and perfecting the very thing communities, organizations and neighborhoods need to mobilize volunteers efficiently and appropriately around critical needs. In this challenging moment, we want to make it available for everyone to use for free.”

~Rob Peabody, founder & CEO of VOMO.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

To prepare for this wave of needs coming very soon, we would like to ask you to do several things:

  1. If you are a nonprofit leader, sign up your organization. As you have serving opportunities that are pandemic related, please add them to the platform so willing volunteers will see those and sign up.
  2. Send an email to your network; ask them to share it as well. Right now this is about signing up and gearing up, so the more people and community organizations we can onboard, the better our nation can respond when needed.
  3. Post the call-to-action on all your websites, blogs, and social media accounts. Ask others around you as well. #beaneighbor and www.beaneighborcampaign.com (more details are in the release).
  4. Send this out to every nonprofit, church, school, neighborhood group and other community organization in your network. Any organization on the frontlines can use Be a Neighbor and VOMO FREE to mobilize helpers. GoogleDocs and listservs are not going to cut it as the critical needs escalate.
