Let the Holy Spirit Lead By Ed McDowell

Let the Holy Spirit Lead Please!

Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.

Galatians 5:2526 NLT

As leaders, we know what it is like to live in our own strength.  Each of us has a “my own strength” story that did not work out well.

We know what is like to pursue our own desires apart from God’s involvement in our decisions.  We think we know better, or we just decide we are going to do what we want on our terms.  We are going to get it and do it no matter what the consequences.  This never goes well.

Before Jesus returned to the Father, He told the disciples that the Holy Spirit was coming.  The Holy Spirit will guide, empower, and provide all that is needed to follow God through Jesus Christ.

Up to this point, the path of being right with God was through a set of laws.  The apostle Paul declares that the life of religious law keeping, and animal sacrifices is over.  Jesus has completed the law and provided the only sacrifice ever needed for salvation, the giving of His own life.

Now there is a new way to live. It is not through the rigors of religious compliance.  Rather, it is through the presence and leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  Lest you think that this is a feeling-based way of living, think again.

The Holy Spirit lives out the whole truth of God and guides us in doing the same.  The ways of the Holy Spirit there are not laws against: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is complete freedom in living this way.

Encouragement

As a leader, take any issue in your life as ask a simple question:  Am I letting the Holy Spirit lead me in this?  There is a good evidence test of this: Do your responses to issues and people reflect the qualities of the Holy Spirit: love, joy peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control?

Prayer

Dear Holy Spirit, please yes.  Come lead. Every area of our lives. We need You. Forgive our resistance. We declare a desire and will to follow Your lead in every area of our lives. We need Your help with this. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
