The Strong Care of God During the Battles

The words of Psalm 68 come from a king who has fought in many battles with enemies.  King David has seen the Lord God deliver.  As King, he has come to know firsthand the critical nature of trusting God in the context of overwhelming circumstances.

He writes about God scattering enemies and putting them on the run for their very lives.  He speaks of absolute destruction with phrases like

“Blow them away like smoke, Melt them like wax in a fire. Let the wicked perish in the presence of God.” (Psalms 68: 1-2)

On the contrast, King David encourages the godly to rejoice.

“Let them be glad in God’s presence. Let them be filled with joy. Sing praises to God and to his name!” (Psalms 68:3-4)

The King continues describing God.

“Father to the fatherless, defender of widows – this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But he makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.” (Psalms 68: 5-6)

King David recounts God’s faithfulness to people.  He declares the majesty and power of God. Then comes this amazing statement of the strong tender care of God.

“Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms.” (Psalms 68:19)

King David lived and led in a world of physical wars.  People were killed. It was harsh battle.  In this context he came to know the real time help of God in the most difficult circumstances. As the King of the people, he wanted everyone to know this important truth.

God cares for us every day, in every circumstance, no matter how overwhelming it is.

Encouragement

Whatever is in front of you today, God is caring for you as you follow Him.  Lean into this truth and be encouraged.  Whether it is enemies or issues, God is with you.

Prayer

Dear Father God, thank You for caring for us in all of life.  We are saved by You. We are lost without You.  Our trust is in You.  In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
