The Outcomes Conference 2024 Book of the Year!

Book of the Year: Healthy Leadership for Thriving Organizations

Christian Leadership Alliance announces the Outcomes Conference 2024 Book of the Year, Healthy Leadership for Thriving Organizations: Creating Contexts Where People Flourish (Baker Academic, December 2023) by Dr. Justin A. Irving.

Meet Dr. Justin A. Irving

Dr Justin A. Irving serves as the Duke K. McCall Professor of Christian Leadership and chair of the Department of Leadership and Discipleship at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

He previously served as professor of ministry leadership and director of the DMin program at Bethel Seminary. He also serves as one of the pastors at Sojourn Church Midtown in Louisville.

Before this, Dr. Irving served at Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, MN, for twenty years in various roles (Professor of Ministry Leadership, Doctor of Ministry Director, Associate Dean, Interim Co-Vice President, and Dean). Dr. Irving’s previous positions also include serving as pastor of leadership development and outreach in the local church, worship leader, assistant youth minister, homeless shelter chaplain, and adjunct instructor of Bible at the University of Northwestern, St. Paul.

He is also the author of Leadership in Christian Perspective: Biblical Foundations and Contemporary Practices for Servant Leaders.

More About the Book!

The devastating effects of toxic work environments are top news. Everyone seems to understand that healthy organizations nurture flourishing individuals and societies–flourishing that Jesus desires for all of us. How can Christian business and ministry leaders create a positive organizational culture and identity?

Justin Irving has spent twenty years studying, teaching, and reflecting on organizational leadership. Drawing wisdom from the Bible, contemporary leadership theory, and the insights of over two hundred executive leaders, Irving provides a theological framework that makes human flourishing the driving motivation for leading organizations. He helps readers invest in their growth to become leaders who motivate, inspire, and nurture. But he broadens the view to help readers see how different levels of leadership–the dynamics and interdependence of teams and the whole organization–work together. He then offers practical insights on building teams, culture, effective communication, and navigating the storms of crisis and change.
