Generous Refreshment By Ed McDowell

A Season of Generous Refreshment

The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. ~ Proverbs 11:25

The sweetest refreshment experienced is always associated with generosity.  Stop and think about the times of refreshment in your own life, examine the details of that refreshment and you will find generosity flowing through the experience.

In faith, it is the generous love of God through Jesus Christ that gives us forgiveness.  Ultimate Refreshment!

In creation, it is the generous creation of God that renews our spirit and rests our soul as we take in the grandeur and majesty God provides.  Creative Refreshment!

In relationship, it is the generous giving and receiving that brings joy and constant renewal to relationships. Relational Refreshment!

In resources, it is such joy to help others, to share, and support meeting needs and giving good things.  There is refreshment in giving. Resource Refreshment!

Through this season of pandemic, a key part of the path through is found by providing help to each other.  Words of encouragement, gifts of money and prayer on behalf of others provides generous refreshment.

Be aware that the opposite is also true.  When we live a life focused only on the preservation and provision for ourselves, without concern for others, we become selfish, stingy, and our spirit begins to dry up as if a pandemic of famine had hit our soul.  There is no refreshment in selfishness.

Encouragement:  The amazing truth in this verse is that generosity provides abundance and refreshment.  Be intentional about being generous today.  See God’s abundance and experience His refreshment.

Prayer:  Dear Jesus, thank You for being the example of ultimate generosity for us. Thank you for teaching us that generosity is the baseline for abundance and refreshment.  Help us to live generously today in a world that is starved for refreshment.  In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
